SHOULD TRUMP BE INVESTIGATED FOR POSSIBLE CRIMINAL ACTIVITY?

I have read a lot of opinion pieces suggesting that pursuing possible criminal charges against Trump and his family and cohorts would be unwise because it would be so divisive, and we need a period of calm after the past four years of turmoil. I say such arguments are nonsense for a variety of reasons.

Justice is, or should be, blind, and Trump and his minions should be held to the same standards as you or I. If I get behind the wheel of a car and kill a group of people while I am a roaring drunk, I don’t get to blame it on the alcohol. And he should not get a free pass because it might be a little messy or uncomfortable for us.

He has made my life, and the lives of millions of minorities a living hell for four years. He is a racist, homophobic serial liar who has made enemies of our former allies and friends of autocrats in Russia, China and N. Korea. He has made a mockery of the Bill of Rights, especially free speech and a free press, and he wants to “lock up” his political foes, and he has encouraged his cult members to remember that mantra that he coined: “Lock her up.” That’s what autocrats do in third-world tinpot dictatorial countries. In the U.S., we have a long history of the peaceful transition of power. Even as I write these words, he is still not quite ready to accept the fact that he lost.

But make no mistake, he has built a cult and we have every reason to be afraid. These swamp creatures are malignant narcissists just like Trump. They are not going away. They believe that the election was rigged or stolen, which every expert everywhere has stated is impossible. But facts don’t matter. Science doesn’t matter. Truth doesn’t matter. They drank the poison kool-aid and there is no cure except one.

The only cure is to bring Trump and his minions into the spotlight of a full investigation based on the Mueller report and the evidence available in the state of New York.

We need to feel comforted by the fact that justice is blind. Trump should be held accountable. I have been uncomfortable for a long time. I have felt like the world might be caught up in some sort of unimaginable nuclear war because of the whim of a madman. I am still uneasy because Trump got the second most votes ever for a presidential candidate.

And you should be uncomfortable too. This is not the time for complacency.
