A Free Press

The clown acting as POTUS has been unusually vocal in criticizing the press as purveyors of “fake news”, this coming from an exposed serial liar. I am reminded of a quote from Thomas Jefferson:

“The basis of our government being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it up to me to decide whether we should have government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.”

He writes copiously about the value of a free press: “The only security of all is in a free press.”

He also warns against libel and slander, condemning both.

Trump’s tirades against a free press is unprecedented in our history and should be resisted at every opportunity. Seize every chance to resist what seems to be his tendency toward autocracy since he seems to favor autocrats like Putin.

Someone needs to take him to Brooks Brothers where he can learn how to tie a necktie properly and then off to daycare.
